Thyroid Issues

Thyroid Issues

I often see women with diagnosed and undiagnosed thyroid issues. Symptoms of a sub-optimal thyroid can be confused with typical perimenopausal symptoms, so it can sometimes be missed, or at least not fully addressed.

When the thyroid isn’t working optimally it can lead to fatigue, weight gain, feeling cold, low mood, hair loss, constipation, aches and pains and brain fog. These are often mistaken for perimenopausal symptoms.

Hypothyroidism, or an underactive thyroid, is a health issue that affects 10 times more women than men and it can often occur during the menopause transition. In many cases, it can be as a result of the autoimmune condition, Hashimoto’s.

I always consider thyroid function as part of a female health assessment, as it’s such a crucial part of our health and drives our energy, metabolism, brain and heart health.

How I Can Help You

I can help you support your thyroid function by assessing the balance of key vitamins and minerals and by optimising your immune system, through diet and lifestyle changes. I zoom out to take a holistic view of what might be going on and aim to pinpoint the root cause of your symptoms.

We then work collaboratively to create a fully customised care plan that will include nutrition and lifestyle changes, and nutritional supplements where appropriate. If I feel that testing could help us pinpoint underlying imbalances and root causes, I’ll recommend that too, including referring you to your medical professional for a medical assessment.
